Ryan Gosling's band Dead Man's Bones music video.
"In The Room Where You Sleep" (and Y-Control)
And now for something completley different.
So, Ryan Gosling (Lars and the Real Girl, Half Nelson, The Notebook) is in a... wait for it.... a rock band!I know, it's true. A Hollywood actor who's in a band. Whoever heard of such a thing? Is there anything a movie star can't do?
Anyhoo, the music video is done entirely in one shot (impressive in a Scorsese film - not so much here) and has the backing vocals of a children's choir dressed up like a menagerie of Charles Adams. In fact Gossling said one of his major influences is the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. Pretty good as influences go. I just think he didn't go far enough.
I'm a sucker for kid-choirs in rock (Pat Benetar used on in We Belong; Radiohead used a brief sample in 15 Steps from In Rainbows), and these guys - Silver Lake Conservatory of Music Children's Choir - are pretty good. But the video stinks. And it makes me miss the truly wicked children from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 2004 video,Y-Control. (We can thank Spike Jonze for creating the bad-seeds who march over a dead dog in this one)
So here's "In The Room Where You Sleep" by Dead Man's Bones and Y-Control for comparison's sake.
